Description
Very charming, french, louis XVI period parcel gilt and painted marriage trumeau mirror, featuring two small kissing birds. Other neoclassical ornaments include laurel leaves, tassels and pearl beading. Laurel has a very rich symbolic meaning in western culture. Laurel stands for victory, and it is associated with immortality, purification, and health. Wooden back with old antique heavy foxed glass. Circa 1780. Condition: wear is consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Overall good condition, with usual wear, scratches, minor losses to gilding. The mirror glass is old and distressed – all consistent with age and use.
