Dimensions: Foot width: 45cm, height 50.5 cm, seat diameter 35cm x 3 Rowac, known for its industrial-style furniture, is one of the German manufacturers active in the first half of the 20th century and whose products are known under the name of the manufacturer instead of the designer's. It was not recorded who created the Rowac designs, but the pieces were marked with the company's logo, so the name was rediscovered by vintage lovers in the 21st century. Founded in 1888 by Robert Wagner as an ironworks, "ROWAC" is an acronym from the first two letters of the first and last name of the founder and the first letter of the Saxon town of Chemnitz. Although Rowac produced a wide range of industrial furniture, including chairs, tables, toolboxes and cabinets, the company is best known for its industrial stools that have become vintage classics. Rowac's first stool, which had three iron legs and a round wooden seat, was launched in 1905. In the following years, numerous variations of this stool were produced - some with three legs, others with four. The last redesign was done in the 1920s, although the stool was made many years later. Rowac patented many of its product designs, such as a stool whose legs could be quickly dismantled and replaced for shipping. Many factories and workshops were furnished with Rowac stools, including the German Trade Union Confederation in 1923 and the classrooms of the Bauhaus of Walter Gropius in Dessau. After the Second World War, the factory was nationalized by the government in East Germany and became VEB Bemefa. In 1990 the company was privatized again as Bemefa Metallmöbel GmbH and today it is known as bemefa-simco. The Rowac stool is exhibited in the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna and the Institute of Art History at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. Please note that despite careful work, a lot of effort and attention to detail is not new furniture. There are originals which are sometimes 70-80 years and older. Traces of use are normal and wanted. It may happen that color deviations arise on the pictures depending on the lighting conditions.
