Gispen Panama Wall Lamp No. 4050 by W. Rietveld & A.R. Cordemeyer, 1950s – Black with Original Diffuser. A refined example of postwar Dutch industrial design, this original Gispen Panama Wall Lamp No. 4050 was designed in the 1950s by Wim Rietveld and André Cordemeyer for Gispen. This sculptural yet highly functional wall lamp reflects the clean lines and utilitarian elegance that define mid-century modernism in the Netherlands. The lamp features its original black lacquered metal hood, with subtle, age-appropriate wear that testifies to its authenticity and history (70yrs). Most notably, it retains its rare, original polyester diffuser, which casts a beautifully soft, ambient light and is often missing from surviving examples. The lamp has three hinges, so it can be put in different positions (with the original special red key, attached to the wall plate). This piece exemplifies the designers' commitment to simplicity, material honesty, and modular functionality — core values of the mid-century modern movement. Suitable for both residential and gallery settings, it offers a timeless statement in lighting design. Manufacturer: Gispen. Designers: Wim Rietveld & A.R. Cordemeyer. Period: 1950s. Origin: Netherlands. Condition: Good vintage condition; wear to hood consistent with age. Polyester diffuser in excellent original condition. Materials: Lacquered metal, polyester. The Panama lamp is included in the collection of the ‘Stedelijk Museum’ in Amsterdam. A rare opportunity to acquire an original edition of this iconic piece with all original components intact.
